Tag Talk: How to Read a Feed Tag

It’s easy to compare two different rabbit feeds, right? Just look at the tags.  If the nutrients listed are the same percentage, then shouldn’t the feeds then be pretty much the same?

Well, not exactly.  In reality, the amount of information listed on a feed tag is very minimal.  A feed tag will not consider the quality of the ingredients that go into making a feed.  How digestible are the ingredients; can the rabbit actually use the nutrients listed on the tag?  A tag will not indicate the quality of the ingredients used.  The developmental research that is a part of the formulation, or the ingredient tested that verifies what goes into each bag.

The most important component on a feed tag may be the actual “Brand” on the tag.  Knowing that the feed is made by a company with the resources to produce the right feed is the best assurance.  The Purina Mills® brand Ph.D. nutritionists carefully formulate each and every feed we sell, making sure we’re using the highest quality ingredients available. They don't just look at individual nutrients.  They look at the nutritional profile of each ingredient and what they provide for growth, performance, and overall health.  We consider how all nutrients interact—because too much of a good thing can end up causing problems.

So, are all feeds alike?  No.  Put your trust in a brand that has been doing nutritional research for over 80 years.  Purina Mills® Rabbit Chowbrand products…like no other.
